The Yamaha R1 is our first inline four since our F4 and S1000RR left us last year and initial impressions put it right up there!  After a few miles it’s already showing it has more character than the S1000RR and sounds just as special as the MV.  It has effortless power from right at the bottom of the rev range and is as smooth as silk. It’s precise on the road and has a rumble you just want to hear more of, once run in it’ll make everyone smile!

The Ducati 1199 Panigale has arrived on the fleet!  Is this as bigger deal as the RSV4 Factory and S1000RR, hell yes!  Just like the R1 it is very special!  It has Ducati character oozing from it, the brakes are unbelievable and you know once those tyres are scrubbed, it will cling on to any corner and leave it at a phenomenal rate of knots!  Both these bikes are massively impressive, come and enjoy them!

Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) took his second race win of the season after an incident-strewn race at Donington. On the first corner Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) and Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team) touched and Checa went down, taking out Jakub Smrz (Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati) and Checa’s team-mate Davide Giugliano.

Then Laverty crashed down Craner Curves, as up front eventual third place man Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) led for most of the race distance. He was finally mugged by a warring faction which included eventual second place man Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing Team) and both BMW Motorrad Motorsport Riders, Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri. After a multitude of overtakes and riders running off track on occasion, Haslam looked to have it won until both he and Melandri ran wide at the very last corner and Rea pushed inside. They collided and Haslam fell, knocking off Melandri as he slid on the track. Rea held on to win by just over half a second from Biaggi, with Sykes two second back. Leon Camier (Fixi Crescent Suzuki) was an impressive fourth.

In the championship, the final dramas mean that Biaggi has 128.5 points, Sykes 123.5, Rea 108, Checa 105.5 and Melandri 97.5.

Brits on top at Donington Park, both setting times under 1 minute 28 seconds, taking Checa’s lap record from last year! Lets hope the weather is as good as the forecast and Sykes and Haslam take a win each!!

A masterful race from The Stalker in a wet race at Oulton Park provided a long awaited and very popular step to the top of the podium.

Chris rode a brilliant race, coming through the field to take his first win in twelve years. Shakey had no response to Chris’ wet ride on full wets rather than the inters Shakey expected his chaser to be on!

Let’s hope his new found confidence sees him do just as well in race two!

The first of the new track fleet has arrived at Spyder Club. This Ducati 900 S will be available to members and non-members joining us on the Niall Mackenzie instructed track days with Focused Events.

Currently the other track bike is a Ducati 848, this will be leaving us soon and replaced with something just as entertaining!

First impressions of the 900 S are very good, plenty of room to move about and enough poke for us mortals! The handling is typical Ducati, superb just as it is!

Spyder Club member Maria Costello had a successful weekend at the Cookstown 100 despite a DNF due to battery failure on her Classic 250cc Bob Jackson Suzuki T20 which forced her to retire from a comfortable third place finish.

Riding her new Yamaha R6 for John Burrows’ Cookstown/BE Racing Team, Maria took 16th place on her first outing on the bike and now can’t wait for the TT! Maria also took 16th place in the super twins riding her much loved Pizza Bike.

Looking forward to her first ride on one of ours!

Ducati UK have now confirmed that the Spyder Club Ducati Panigale 1199 is winging it’s way to us from Italy! The much anticipated arrival will be one of the guests of honour at the Spyder Club open day weekend on the 26th and 27th May.

Other new bikes in attendance – besides the rest of the stunning Spyder Club fleet – will be the Yamaha R1 and the Husqvarna Nuda.  If you would like to find out more about Spyder Club and the advantages of membership get in touch!

Spyder Club Open Day and Party

Two Open Days have been organised so that those interested in Spyder Club membership can ride some of the Spyder Club fleet, meet members and enjoy lunch with us at Spyder Club. Come along and see the new line up, including the Ducati 1199 Panigale, Husqvarna Nuda R and a Yamaha R1, other bikes will be confirmed very soon!

There is also the opportunity to enjoy an evening with us at our Summer Party on Saturday night, 26th May.

Having sold my beloved Ducati Monster four years ago to start Spyder Club I am at last a motorcycle owner again!

My secondhand Ducati 900 S with 1,600 miles will be used to lead guests on Spyder Club events and tours and thrashed by members on Niall Mackenzie instructed track days. But it will be enjoyed most when on rides with Spyder Lizzi, no doubt with members in tow!!!
